You have never been in a better state than where you are currently.
I wrote the following a few stressful nights ago, when I could feel myself starting to spiral. Like so many of us, I get caught up in the endless cycle of comparing myself to everyone else around me and I berate myself for not being as far along, financially or career-wise or socially or whatever it is. I’ve tried a few things in the past to get out of spiraling, including mindfulness through breathwork and giving gratitude, but I was really struggling that night. So I wrote a list of all the things I have accomplished in the last years to remind myself how far I’ve come. It really helped me gain perspective and I hope you try this next time you’re struggling to remind yourself how awesome you really have been.
Relaxxxxxx. Everything is okay. It’s cliché but everything is in your head. You have never been in a better state than where you are currently. A better state mentally. Physically you have made a lot of improvements too. Emotionally and financially are the tricky ones because they come and go. But they are not things that truly matter. They are helpful tools that can serve you, no doubt. But they can deceive you and make you forget the progress you HAVE made.
What progress? you ask.
- You hardly dissociate anymore.
- You’re aware of your trauma and the effects it has had on you.
- You have started and persisted on your healing journey.
- You’ve left your stagnant job and started on a path that is in line with what you wanna do!
- Your cooking/baking skills [my current hobby and career path] have never been better and can only improve from here!
- You have friends that you are comfortable around and truly want to hang out with.
- You are actively going out of your way to meet people!
- You know yourself more than ever–your likes, dislikes, desires, priorities.
- You have done things six, seven years ago you would have NEVER imagined yourself doing!
